1. Is the Astral plane the dream world? If so are people like you able to travel it while awake?

Astral planes are not the dream world. Dreams commonly, as I suppose, are products of our brain and existing only in the brain.
However, there are many people who have spontaneous but unconscious astral travels - acting in such spheres in an absent minded sense, having dreamlike thoughts in their head. These for dream-walkers preferred planes I have called "dream plane" (perhaps a somehow confusing term).

2. I have heard it is the plane where spirits, and demons have more form than on our plane. well...is that true? and if so wouldn't that make it dangerous there?

All these demons you see in TV and cinemas are fantasies and as well all the power they had. Maybe there are demons, but they usually are demonic human deceased. It only have been some few occasions in which OBEs seemed dangerous to me - then I returned immediately back into my physical body.

3. My mother did astral projection before I was born and she said something grabbed her or something like that. What could that have been?

In OBE pre-states one frequently can observe touch sensations. This state is symptomatically pre-sleep like with dream like inner sensory perceptions.

4. I have also heard it is a place where thoughts and ideas come to life. So if I go there I would see say...The things that I draw?

These places are called mental planes - everything is mental made - it's like an artificial cyber space, virtual as well like this electronic worlds, but now created by collective thoughts and telepathic thought interactions.

If you die while you are asleep or unconcious, will your spirit regain "normal waking conciousness" after death, as if you died conciously?

Yes, you will be conscious when you are at the other side - a momentary situation is without influence, even if it is at the moment of death.
