Re: Are you really Robert Peterson??

Yes, I am Bob Peterson. I'm on this site to read what
the German-speaking people are saying about OBE.
German is the only other language I can read than English.
I've always thought that the German language was very cool.
When I was very young, maybe five or six years old, my dad
(Harold Fred Peterson) used to listen to his short-wave
radio and sometimes he would ask me if I wanted to listen.
I would listen and he would turn the dial. I'd listen
patiently until I heard the German language, then I'd
say, "Stop! What are they saying? What's that language?"
and he would say "German". (He could not speak German but
he could certainly identify it on the radio).
My grandmother, Marie Hodgson, was 100% full-blooded German.
I remember when I was a small boy asking her to speak
German to me, but she didn't remember any because she had
lived in Minnesota (USA) all her life.
When I was in eighth grade, I took my first German language
class. I took German in classes all through high-school.
I visited Germany for the first time when I was still a
teenager, and I loved it there. Perhaps there is a
past-life connection for me there, I don't know.
I also took a small German class in college. At one point,
I was pretty good at it, but the more I learned, the more I
got confused by the grammar. With no one to use it on,
I eventually forgot much of what I had learned.
Besides, by then I was more interested in OBEs!
When the people at Omega-Verlag translated my book into
German, I was very proud. My wife Kathy and I used
free frequent-flier airline tickets to fly to Dusseldorf
and thank them. (Well, it was also a good opportunity
to see Savatage in concert at the Stahlwerk club!)
One thing I want to make clear: My fondness is not just for
Germany, but all the German-speaking countries,
including Austria and Switzerland, etc. My
favorite city from that area is actually Salzburg because
it is so peaceful there. Freiburg is perhaps my second
favorite.
I've visited this site many times, although I've never
posted until the other day. Perhaps I was too embarrassed
by my poor command of German grammar. I keep telling
myself I should re-learn the German language by reading
my own translated book, but to be honest, I've been too
busy for that.
Thank you for your interest, and sorry to waste so much of
your time with this long post.
Bob Peterson
