Vergrabenes Blech auf dem Mars?

This photo shows the site of where the Spirit Rover heat shield crashed. The only problem is if you look closely at the ground there is a piece of rusty metal sticking out with mostly undisturbed soil with those interesting little berry things in it. So the question to NASA would be, if the rusty old piece of metal belongs to the heat shield, how did it manage to get underneath the ground without tearing up the soil around it or did they let something slip by?
